In 1973 the world famous Twelve Hours of Sebring was contested under IMSA GT Championship rules for the first time. Victory went to the all American team of Peter Gregg, Hurley Haywood and Dave Helmick in a Porsche Carrera RSR. The win marked a turning point for the event and lead to a decade of domination by Porsche with derivatives of the mighty 911.
